Vistra, and its retail electricity brand, Dynegy, will celebrate Earth Day with the launch of a two-year Trees for Growth initiative at Philadelphia’s Bethune Elementary School. The project, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, is made possible through a $100,000 commitment from Vistra.
Vistra Trees for Growth will add 100 trees to the Bethune Elementary School campus, and 25 additional trees on the streets near the school. By improving the community’s tree canopy, Vistra Trees for Growth will add green space to North Philadelphia where surface temperatures can be four degrees higher than the city average.
Since 2002, Vistra and its family of retail brands have partnered with cities, counties, schools, and nonprofits to provide more than 300,000 trees. Through these donations, the company has helped generate environmental savings and health benefits for municipalities and residents valued at approximately $37 million annually during the life of the trees.
As a leader in the power sector, Vistra is committed to bettering communities while leading in the fight to combat climate change. With a goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, Vistra is investing in zero-carbon resources, retiring coal-fueled assets, and investing in environmentally-sound solutions and technology.
