Burleson High School Students Consider a Path in Energy

Burleson High School Students tour Luminant’s Midlothian Power Plant.

They are the minds powering a new generation. Burleson High School seniors are mapping out their future with the help of the school’s Workforce Industry Training (WIT) program and a trip to Luminant’s Midlothian Power Plant.

The facility, located in the Texas ERCOT market, is a combined-cycle gas power plant with a capacity of 1,596 MW, enough to power approximately 319,000 homes during periods of peak demand.

Burleson seniors, many of whom plan to study engineering in college, toured the plant and saw firsthand how gas and steam turbines work together to put electricity on the grid.

“This was our only industry tour this year; we are happy to be here at a place like this, “said Jessica Merrill, Burleson High School teacher.  Merrill said, “This experience was super informative, and I liked how they talked about the different types of career paths students could go on. It was very educational for our students.”
