Powering a Smarter Grid: Expanding Vistra’s Virtual Power Plant in Texas

Vistra is expanding its residential battery aggregation program, bringing more customer-owned energy resources into a growing virtual power plant across Texas.

Through its Battery Rewards program, offered by TXU Energy, customers with Enphase Energy IQ® Batteries can now earn incentives by exporting stored energy to the grid during periods of high demand. By connecting distributed batteries into a coordinated system, Vistra is unlocking a new way to deliver flexible, on-demand power.

“At a time of rapid growth in Texas, demand-side solutions like this are becoming increasingly important,” said Sam Sen. “By bringing additional flexible resources online during critical periods, we can strengthen reliability while making better use of the infrastructure already in place.”

Vistra uses advanced, AI-enabled technology to manage energy flows in real time. During peak periods, participating homes are automatically shifted to draw power from their batteries instead of the grid and, when available, export excess energy back to the system. The result is a more responsive, efficient grid powered in part by everyday homes.

For customers, the value is immediate. Participants receive financial incentives while maintaining control of their systems and access to backup power during outages, along with ongoing benefits from TXU Energy solar buyback programs.

This expansion builds on Vistra’s track record of introducing innovative energy solutions that give customers more control while supporting grid reliability. With Battery Rewards, Vistra continues to show how technology, customer participation, and flexible resources can work together to power what’s next.
