For Tyler ISD, Grant Patrol Day is more than a celebration. It’s a moment that brings classrooms to life.
With drumline music, cheers, and plenty of surprises, educators across the district were recognized for their creativity and commitment to students. This year, 22 teachers received funding through the Tyler ISD Foundation’s Grants for Great Ideas initiative, with support from local partners including TXU Energy.
As part of its partnership with the Tyler ISD Foundation, TXU Energy helped fund two STEM-focused grants that support hands-on learning and new ways for students to explore technology, leadership, and problem-solving.
“When we think about the people who impact our lives most, it’s often our teachers,” said Connie Schaefer, TXU Energy retail representative for Tyler ISD. “Seeing their excitement and surprise in that moment made the day even more meaningful.”
At Orr Elementary, funding will expand STEM lab capabilities with new coding and robotics tools, giving students the opportunity to design, build, and bring their ideas to life. At Owens Elementary, a new “Synergy Station” will transform an unused space into an interactive arcade where students can earn rewards for demonstrating leadership and teamwork.
Together, these projects connect classroom learning with real-world skills, helping students see what’s possible and how their ideas can take shape.
